Wonderful analysis. I keep looking at the 10Y treasury and shaking my head. My 9-5 job is as a financial advisor and it keeps me up at night. A lot of smart finance folks have been screaming about this since the tariffs started. But you crystallized the European angle perfectly.

Personally, although it will severely impact us financially, maybe that’s a good thing? Maybe less consumption is in order. It will definitely help ecologically.

A couple of questions:

1. Can Washington play its NATO card to “convince” the EU to play nice? Like a mafioso who might owe a ton of money, but they also have the muscle. I’m not condoning American thuggery. But it’s an option.

2. I am not sure what the MAGA end-goal is in terms of geopolitics. Do they want to be isolationist? We have a lot of faults but we can feed ourselves and we can definitely defend ourselves. At least for now. (The situation in Taiwan makes me nervous because without microchips, we’re toast.)

3. This is why, if I was Trump, I would be VERY kind and magnanimous with Canada and Mexico. The three of us could be a formidable geopolitical and economic bloc.

Thoughts?
