Everyone, Meet the Real Snowflakes…The Fascists
Why the Fascist Mind Is the Histrionic Hot Mess It Accuses Everyone Else of Being
My friends, open your hearts: it’s been a bad few days for the snowflakes of the world, by which I mean…the right. The far right, which is the only right remaining, really.
And by now, we should all be able to see it. It’s on open display. We’ve begun to say it, even, because it’s so perverse, and, in a way, funny, even. The real “snowflakes” are…the tender hearts…on the right. The fascists. Why, their feelings are always hurt. They’re the real victims here! Poor things! They’re practically storybook damsels at this point, swooning and fainting at the merest touch, and that’s a little funny precisely because, well, they’re the ones calling the rest of us “snowflakes.”
How do you even make sense of this level of irony? What planet are we on? You see, while the far right accuses anyone and everyone else of being overly sensitive, emotional, all the traditional values it associates with a kind of profoundly misogynistic “femininity”…it’s the one really enacting these, over and over again. So…what’s going on here?
We shouldn’t take it lightly. The claim that “you’re hurting me!” is never one to be minimized, even if — especially if — it comes from people we don’t particularly…well…like. That, after all, is how we live up to our own democratic values of equality and truth and justice. So…what is it exactly that’s hurting the right, over and over again? More to the point, whydoes the right wing claim that it’s always the injured party, that it’s suffered a grave, deep injury…just by the rest of us…existing…associating…loving…?
The strangest part is that the right-wing potstirrers are some of society’s most successful people. Household names, with fame and fortune. What possible threat can…anyone…much…really be to them?
This example is so absurd, so ridiculous, because it reveals what this game of hurt feelings is really about. Literally nobody in society is a threat to billionaires. Nobody. Figures like these have amassed enough wealth and power to literally be able to build a fortress, and ignore the rest of the world for their lifetimes. The idea that anybody — short of say, Putin’s hitmen — is really a threat to them is just what it appears to be: a joke.
But “a joke” is putting it a little too loosely. It’s a belief — a paranoid one. You see, figures like these really believe it. They are willing to lose their careers, credibility, reputations. To impose such profound costs on yourself can only really mean that you believe, deeply, this claim you’re making — even if it’s prima facie absurd, like, “the world’s Black people are out to get me! Us! All of us!!” LOL, what?
Let’s go back to our childhoods for a second. A lot of us — us, who grew up to be thoughtful, decent, kind people — were bullied. Maybe even tormented. Think back to those days. Do you remember the same perversity at work? I do. The word they used back then wasn’t “snowflake,” at least in my case — it was “f*g.” That meant “gay,” of course, but not only gay — it meant feminine, emotional, weak, sensitive.
Now, I was sensitive. I wrote poetry and songs and whatnot. But most days? I’d just be walking down the street, quite happily, and then along would come these fools, these mini-fascists, and start with the whole routine. F*ggot! Snowflake!! Meaning: hey, look, it’s the sensitive, weak, emotional one. But I was the one walking down the street with no particular worry or feeling too serious. They were the ones who were consumed with…a whole lot of feelings. Rage. Jealousy. Hate.
Even back then, it struck me as funny. Because it was so perverse. I was the sensitive one? Not the ones who’d fly into a white-hot rage, screaming, shouting, shaking with anger…just because I…existed? Surely that was exactly backwards.
